Our senses are wonderful receivers and transmitters. They allow us to engage with the world around us, bringing the outside world in. They enable us to gather information about what we are engaging with and assist us to develop an understanding of ourselves in the world.
Full sensory awareness is uncommon. Most of us are not tuned in to ourselves; we lack focus and discipline and, as a consequence, we haven’t learnt to master our attention. Instead, most of us are locked inside the repetitions of our limited sense experience. Even though we all have access to our intuition or sixth sense, it is often disregarded and dismissed by logic and reason. This then weakens our capacity to be open to our full potential.
Learning to trust our inner voice can be tricky, and of course, one of the biggest challenges we have is our own mind. It is certainly more powerful than any situation on the outside. Most of us are consumed by its chatter, opinions, judgements and criticisms. We get sucked into believing that everything we think is true and, let’s face it, our persistent thoughts can be pretty convincing when they want to be. This causes us to develop habitual thinking and over time, this creates our experience.
